                                 One Year Anniversary!

Thank you for participating in the Little Free Library at 300 Boulder St.!
I love maintaining and operating this tiny lending library. It is so interesting to watch how some books quickly disappear and some languish. No numbers, no schedule, no spread sheet, this Little Free Library is like performance art – I never know, you never know.

Thank you for stopping by, I’m always thrilled to see my neighbors searching the two tiny shelves for something interesting.

Keep up the exchange!

Four Reasons for a Little Library @ 300 Boulder

                                                                                      #1

I love books. I love to share them, write them, discuss them.  I’ve fantasized about owning a bookstore, but retail doesn’t mesh with my lifestyle, so this is the beautiful solution!
Take a book, share it, pass it around, and either return it to move it forward to the Friends of the Library or Goodwill, or a used bookstore like Town Talk Books to exchange for another book.

This Little Free Library is a perfect memorial to my parents Julie and Lynn Bramkamp who loved books. . Here you will find books from my mother’s collection, of which there is quite a lot.  Maybe like her, you will fall in love with a  book series, and maybe like me, you’ll be happy to share the books!

Reading is powerful.  If it wasn’t, there wouldn’t be so much outcry over books: banning, panicking, school board antics, deep concern over  children reading the “wrong” books, parents objecting to books they’ve never read (because they don’t read), using “bad books” as an excuse to promote a completely unrelated political agenda.  I find this enormously positive. Clearly reading is still powerfully transformative.  The written word is still considered magical, certainly dangerous.  So share the magic, indulge in the danger. Read.

I interviewed the founder of the Little Free Libraries Todd H. Bol on my podcast Newbie Writers.  At the time Todd was just launching the project and  I was charmed by the idea of Little Free Libraries as well as the man himself.  I’ve always had a soft spot for him and the Little Free Libraries!

HOW TO

  • Take a book, read the book. Be  entertained or inspired.
  • Since it’s free, take a book by an author you’ve never read before – explore!
  • Support a local author by taking, reading and returning his or her book.
  • Leave a book review on Amazon – it is SO DIFFICULT for authors to entice readers to leave an Amazon review, help them out, return the book and we’ll start again supporting our local artists.
  • Form a book club.
  • Attend book readings, poetry slams, or poetry happy hours.
  • Join in on the Country Reads program (look it up on your public library web site)
  • Support your local library
  • Attend the Sierra Writer’s Conference (usually in February)
  • Attend the Sierra Poetry Festival (always in April, National Poetry Month – you knew that)
  • Return your book to this or any of the 179,000 Little Free Libraries in the world.
