The Story Coach

Drinks@the Last Cafe Chapter 6

Drinks @ the Last Cafe

VI

The Florida exodus did not succeed
wheels lost into potholes the size old cars
tumbling 15 pounds of dried soup
a gallon of mayonnaise
bags of Ikea bolts and screws

Enterprising goblins snatched up the abandoned
selling them again at the trail head.
it will be fine, they assured the new travelers
each group weaker than before
Buy buy  buy
you will need this mustard gallon
3 kilos cereal, pounds of peanut butter

refugees were felled by hurricanes
how do you feel now?
1) deluged
2) dehydrated
3) disgruntled
4) dead

Fantasies hugged the left coast,
nowhere else to go but the grey Pacific
dreams swirled around in the tide
like driftwood
the directors traveled to the beach
collected – sorted
transforming driftwood and shells
into videos and songs

the hunched man emerged from the bed of a truck
he eyed the girl
Sam shook his head
I just want to hear the stories
the old man insisted
tell me yours
the girl pointed to their fire
then I’ll tell you mine

@ the Timeless Tavern
a young man grinned
his teeth knocked out
the badge of successful terror gang encounters
you were a Letter Man, he accused
Sam nodded.

for a time, he helped the cause
writing out Terrorists to Freedom Fighters
Hackers to Liberators.
Angry to Righteous; we fight for you
but all we really do
is make noise for ourselves
